Artist Statement
My creative process begins with a presence — an unseen entity that visits unannounced. It whispers to my eyes, guiding them toward visual artefacts shaped by memory, emotion, and imagination.
I stretch, carve, dig, and sculpt images into being. Each piece becomes a vessel for the intangible — a fusion of realism and abstraction that invites quiet reflection on the impermanence of experience and the tension between stillness and distraction in contemporary life.
Rooted in a phenomenological approach, my work engages the viewer’s full perceptual field — not only sight, but also memory, touch, and emotional resonance. It invites a sensory pause: a space where presence and transiency intertwine, and where the boundaries of perception blur into a continuum of becoming.
Biography
Alejandro Escobar is a Colombian-born, London-based artist whose sculptural paintings explore impermanence, perception, and the embodied experience of contemporary life. His work draws on phenomenological ideas, using material and digital form to reflect on how we encounter the world through layered sensations — where memory, presence, and imagination continuously overlap.
With over 18 years of practice, Escobar’s multidisciplinary approach bridges traditional fine art and emerging technologies, combining painting and sculpture with photogrammetry, 3D modeling, animation, virtual reality, and generative AI. His works invite viewers into immersive perceptual dialogues — not just to see, but to feel, remember, and reflect.
He holds a Master’s in Fine Art Digital from the University of the Arts London and has trained at the Art Students League of New York, London Fine Art Studios, and under master painters in Colombia. Escobar has exhibited internationally, with solo and group exhibitions in London, New York, and Medellín, including presentations at Tate Modern, the Colombian Consulate in London, and the Museum of Modern Art in Santa Cruz de la Sierra.
In 2017, he was awarded Artist of the Year by ARTS SU at UAL. His practice continues to evolve through a dialogue between tradition and innovation, using tactile and digital processes to investigate how art can illuminate the lived complexity of time, attention, and the felt experience of being.
