AI Brush Landscape #3

Year: 2023

Technique: Oil Painting over sculpture

Size: Height 38 cm – Width 33 cm – Depth 5.5 cm (Framed)

This is the third piece in the series. I wanted to explore the intriguing visual effect of water reflections not matching the bright blue sky above, adding a surreal and thought-provoking element to the scene. At the centre of the composition is an extruded path of grass extending over the water, leading the viewer’s eye into the distance. The vibrant green foliage contrasts with the large, rounded rocks, enhancing the texture and depth of the scene. In the background, gentle hills and distant mountains frame the landscape, adding a sense of depth and perspective.

By embracing the unique qualities of the AI tool, including the occasional glitches, I aimed to create a landscape that feels both familiar and fantastical.

About the AI Brush Strokes Series

I am exploring the ethical use of Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) to generate landscape images from brush strokes. Unlike text-to-image generation tools, this approach offers direct control over the composition, resulting in images that resemble collages more than photographic realism. This technique allows me to create reference images based on visual aesthetics that closely align with imaginary landscapes.

With this approach, I can take my landscape exploration further by not focusing on realistic depictions but instead, embracing the glitches and unexpected results that give rise to surreal, otherworldly landscapes. The 3D composition in this piece comes as an intuitive reaction to what the images suggest.
